Coquito - make up a mess, bottle up, refrigerate and share-

In a blender:
can of coconut milk
can of cream of coconut
can of evaporated milk
nutmeg, cinnamon
up to a bottle of rum - - prefer Tommy Bahama Bajan white but Bacardi's is fine

We have a Christmas Day tradition of Mimosas. I like that cinnamon schnapps and egg nog idea! Might have to try that! Although Cap't in it sounds good as well...so many choices, so little time...

My father always made glogg for Christmas - warning: it is sweet, and powerful - served warm

1 bottle port
1 bottle red wine
1 bottle aquavit - usually 1/2 the size of the wine bottle
[these are the proportions 1 port, 1 red wine, 1/2 Aquavit]

2 cups water
1 cup sugar

2 or 3 cinnamon sticks
peel of an orange
abt a dozen cloves
cardamom - not ground - abt a teaspoon of the seeds - [abt 10 pods worth]

cup of blanched almonds - no skins
[some people also use a cup of raisins - he didn't]

boil water & sugar till sugar is dissolved
put wines, aquavit, water/sugar syrup, almonds, in a large pot
put in spices tied in cheesecloth

simmer, don't boil abt an hour[then keep it on low, don't burn off the alcohol]
serve an almond or 2 in each cup

any left, pour it into the empty wine bottles. warm it up, don't boil, B4 serving

when I was growing up we always had either Tom and jerry's or hot buttered rum on Christmas eve. This carried through for many years, but I don't think we have had either for 20 years or more. On Christmas day we always have a choice of Mimosas or Bloody Mary's. After that everyone will drink what the want, the guys usually scotch and us gals, wine, but we have to have one of the traditional drinks.
