Well, we just had friends over and the wife put away a bottle by herself without slurring her words, and she said she slept well. I don't judge.

How judgmental, no? I only heard they drink more than we do here in USA but maybe I'm wrong, though I'm sure quite a few Europeans would defend what I say re their amounts.

I am from France. My parents drink wine when they eat, usually red wine with meat and cheese, white wine with fish, etc. It is rarely more than two glasses a day, though. It is part of the meal, almost considered as food. I have never ever seen them even vaguely dizzy.

That said heavy drinking also exists, but in France that rarely includes wine because it is considered more as a traditional drink. That would be more like with heavier stuff.

In Italy it is common for youths to get drunk on red wine though.
