I get post nasal drip and an annoying cough.

This does not happen with any other alcohol containing beverages just beer, my favorite. On weekends, I really used to enjoy a few beers. When I take my wife out for dinner, I always choose a beer with my dinner. If I am in a Mexican restaurant, I get one from that country, same with Italian, Asian, and so on. I really like craft beers. Some foods just don't taste as good without a beer.

I don't drink commercial mass produced beers, such as Bud or Miller. I am hardly a connoisseur, but I know what tastes good and bad.

What ingredient in the beer could be causing this? Has anyone else had this problem? What beers would you suggest?

You know, I am a moderate social drinker who is a fit and active 62. I just don't want to give up this pleasure. It's a small one, but it's important to me.

Before someone asks, I have no other allergies. I am at my right weight for my height, and I have am generally healthy.

Any ideas?

You sound like you've developed an allergy to hops.

Are there "low hops beers"? Or am I doomed to a life without my favorite beverage?

Any advice will be appreciated. Also, how do you know it's hops?

It could be a wheat allergy. What type of beer is causing the reaction?

This sounds very weird and tbh if it were me I would just have another beer and forget about it.

It happens to me at times as well, usually accompanied by a lock-jaw type of reaction. I googled it once (the lock jaw) and it was inconclusive. It doesn't seem to be associated with any particular kind of beer.

Suggestion: Go plug this phrase into a search engine, such as Google: "does beer cause congestion?"

You may get some answers. Let us know if you find a solution.

Are you sure you aren't having to much beer? Or that you're not allergic to something else?
