For someone new to drinking, I almost always suggest sticking to a nice Hefe. You might also like a pilsner, though it's hard to find a good one. If you have access to Cigar City, check out their Florida Cracker.

I think Weihenstephaner is the gold standard of hefeweizens, but Paulaner makes a good one also. As does Sierra Nevada (easy to find).
Just remember to drink it out of a glass by first pouring it half-full, then swirling the rest so the yeast mixes well and pours delightfully over the top with the foam. Or, just watch this video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-rRRT8lS4s

OP, do as other posters have suggested and head to your local microbrewery. Order a flight - that's a set of small glasses with different styles of beer. Try a lager, IPA, stout and brown ale as a minimum. Make a note of what you like. Try different beers by brewers in the styles you enjoyed. If you do this, you'll be well on your way to beer bliss in no time.

Personally I like Yuengling Lager as an everyday readily available beer.
If you like oysters, try them with a Guinness, or try the Guinness alone.
