By "binge drink," I don't mean drinking to get a light buzz. I mean upwards of 15 hard drinks in one night, making a complete fool of yourself, having someone take care of you all night, puking nonstop, etc. And in some cases, an ambulance is required to come. I am in this age range and it is embarrassing to me that people under 25 or so cannot just drink to get a light buzz or not drink at all. It's like they haven't had a successful night unless they pass out and can't remember anything they did or anywhere they went. And even simple events like concerts and going bowling can't be fun without getting obliterated beforehand. I don't even know why high schools bother with dances anymore, because it's guaranteed that 98% of the guests will get good and smashed before they get there and ruin the fun for the people that just want to dance and socialize. I am not a puritan by any means, and I always drink lightly when I have the opportunity, like 4 beers or 2-3 glasses of wine, but I have never once been obliterated and never plan on getting to that point. And I don't get how feeling like crap the next day is worth it for them. My friends and I all agree on this, and whenever we go out, we don't drink at all. I know, though, that not everyone ages 15-25 drink like this every Friday and Saturday night, but the majority do, and I'm curious as to what percentage you think actually do this. I say about 95%, and I find some of the Instagram posts and Snapchat stories I get appalling.

Considering the legal age for alcohol is 21 I would legally say your age range is exaggerated.
As far as binge drinking, there is no age limit to being an alcoholic.
Personally I find 4 beers in one setting or 2-3 glasses of wine in one setting too much.

Wow, you're even less of a drinker than me! I feel a nice buzz after 4 beers or 2-3 glasses of wine, which is as far as I want to go.

If your standard for binge drinking is 15 drinks in an evening I would say it's a pretty small percentage. This is especially true if you are including high school aged kids. When I was in college I drank to get drunk almost every weekend, but it was rare I drank 15 drinks in an evening, and most of my friends didn't drink to quite that extreme either.

If you wanted to ask what percentage of college aged people get drunk every weekend here is some actual data from the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse; I'm not sure of how scientific their survey is since this is an organization that seems to have an agenda, but according to this paper 2/3 college students binge drink at least once per month.

OP, I would have to say you are generalizing way too much. As I said, I enjoyed partying a bit in college, but I was never once at a party where an ambulance was required nor did I ever have a friend who needed to be hospitalized from drinking too much.

I'm now in my mid-30's and I still drink every weekend, I'd say on an average Saturday I enjoy 4-5 good quality beers. I drink because I enjoy the flavor and I also enjoy the buzz, nothing wrong with that. I will also say that I occasionally still enjoy getting fairly drunk, maybe at a wedding with old friends or something like that. As long as I'm not driving or harassing other people what's the harm in it?

Oh, I completely agree with you. I like to get drunk in a good way, but not in a way that makes me throw up all night or make a complete fool of myself. A steady buzz is good though, no doubt. At my college, I do see at least one, sometimes two, ambulances every weekend, and 33 students were rushed to the hospital last year in total. On St. Patrick's Day, there were 5.

95%?? Really??

If that's what you observe in your particular college environment, then I can't argue with it because I am not in that same environment. But I find your estimate staggering. You must be in a particularly hard-drinking college. It's impossible for me to believe that most colleges mirror that behavior to that extent. What you described sounds like pure insanity.

What the harm in it is depends on your definition of "occasionally". If it's a few times a year I agree there is probably no harm. If it's more than that it's probably bad for your health long term.

I never was into binge drinking when i was that age but I would have like 1 to 2 beers a lot of days. However, one of my close friends nearly died of alcohol poisoning when he was that age.The most I have drank is 3 drinks in one night.I drink ocassionaly now and only one beer when i do.I also find getting obliterated to be bad.

I don't know ANYBODY in that age bracket, and didn't when I was IN that age bracket, that binge drinks every weekend, or even binge drinks regularly on ANY schedule.

There are people in my college that get obliterated every single Friday and Saturday night. To me, that is seriously bad for their health, especially their liver.
