I'm meeting up with some friends/acquaintances and would like to get some thoughts on which bottle to bring to the event. I can't decide on which bottle to bring, so thought I would reach out to some folks for their opinions. They are all cabernet sauvignon. Most of the bottles that people will be bringing will be cabs.

1. 2014 Caymus Vineyards, Napa
2. 2010 Heitz Trailside Vineyard, Napa
3. 2007 Duckhorn Vineyards, Napa
4. 2012 Silver Oak, Alexander Valley
5. 2011 Jordan, Alexander Valley
6. 2012 Frank Family, Napa
7. 2011 Groth, Napa

Thanks for the suggestions.

Depends on the wine knowledge of your group, doesn't it? I always try to consider what everyone has access to, and bring something they may not have had an opportunity to try, and then I consider the palates, of the folks I know, and decide if they would really appreciate a higher quality product or if it would be "wasted" on them.

That's the fun part. I was at a Total Wine in the Phoenix area and they had rarities in one rack... North Carolina and Georgia, Idaho, Romania, Lebanon. The fun's in the unexpected, harder-to-find wines, whether it's the winemaker or the varietal. Some harder-to-find varietals include pinot meunier, chenin blanc, vermentino, roussanne; some really hard-to-find varietals include rkatsiteli (Dr. Frank, NY), chambourcin (Midwest and Great lakes), xynomarvo (Greek).

Those are fairly pricey bottles be sure the people who are drinking it appreciate the wine. If you have access to other varietals you can mix it up. If you like bigger reds a Zinfandel, Syrah, Barbera, Super Tuscan, etc... would be worth looking into. Or find a nice Bordeaux or Rhone and you can compare French to California.

I noticed that. If I gave Opus One to some of my relatives, I would be appalled as they said "Yuck! Not sweet enough!" and dumped it out. Some of the better wines available are $10 screwcaps or synthetic stoppers, such as Pepperwood Grove pinot noir from Chile.

Don't know if your event has passed, but the Caymus seems like it might be a bit young. I would probably have gone with the Jordan.

Forgot about this thread. I went with the 2012 Silver Oak and it was good. I'm glad I still have a few of these bottles.

Most of the folks in attendance like wine and other bottles brought were very nice such as 1997 Pine Ridge and 2003 Insignia.
