I can't believe not a single person here has mentioned Guevurtztraminer
It's a bit sweet for my tastes but several of my friends like it so I'll occasionally buy so to have or bring.

Rene Barbier Mediterranean Red @ a whopping $4.99/bottle. It's spanish blend from Tempranillo and Merlot, and it was actually pretty good! I'd have no problem putting it up against most other <$15 wines I've tried in recent months
Oooh! I'll have to try that - thanks! I have had some good Tempranillo blends. DH gave me "wine of the month" club and I do seem to get a lot of Spanish wine.....

I like the red and white "table wines" from Spain I can get at Cost Plus for 5 bucks a bottle!! (can't remember the label though)

I also like Ecco Domani or Bella Sera for Pinot Grigio and Hey Mambo ($10) for a smooth red.

Spanish tempranillos or riojas are my favorite though......most are a good value

Of the brands that I have tried, I think Fetzer is the best (some brands are really bad in comparison). It runs anywhere from $7 to $10 a bottle, depending on the store. I have introduced it to many friends that had never heard of it, and now they always have a bottle on hand!

Good luck in your quest!
I do like it, but prefer the more drier versions. There is such a wide range between sickly sweet and dry it's hard to say what a person may get.

I'm interested in an inexpensive Merlot wine. Very important, a Merlot that can be served at room temperature. Wine that must be chilled before drinking means only one thing...

Other than the BV I think I mentioned earlier, I don't drink very much merlot, but I'd like to hear others suggestions too. I'm a cabernet drinker myself.

For a good Merlot (both under 10$), try "Red Diamond" or "McManus". I don't know if you'll find it where you live, but I can get mine at the local Safeway.
