McLEAN, Va. — It might be one of the great alcoholic innovations of the 21st century - the frozen beer pop, served by an Alexandria restaurateur and bar owner in a variety of sizes and flavors like "Raspbeer-y" and "fudgesicle."

But state regulators say the beer-sicles run afoul of rules governing the serving and pouring of beer.

The story of the frozen beer pop began last week at Rustico Restaurant, where executive chef Frank Morales began selling the frozen treats to customers looking for a more adult way to beat the heat.

You know...i'll try almost anything once. As long as it comes in flavors, and isn't just beer on a stick. lol
I have also tried deep fried twinkies once, and deep fried oreos once.

That is just wrong. Waste of good beer.

Tonight would be a good night for an icy cold one--won't go out in the humidity to get one.

Iced tea with Splenda/lemon for me--must lose 10 lbs.

Waste of good beer was my thought too. I wonder what happens to the alcohol when it is truely frozen enought to make a popcicle?

PS. I spent a summer in McLean. Have you ever heard of the "hogie house" out in Falls Church?

I would think that the alcohol would act like an antifreeze and all you would get would be rapidly melting slush. How many ounces could you freeze pop-size?

Guinness/Sam Adams pops? Nah, doesn't sound appetizing. If someone wanted to try them, I suppose you could make just 1 cube at home in an ice cube tray or small yogurt container. Maybe I'll give it a try next time I have a 6-pack (could be awhile, as I'm not a real drinker) & report back.

When I was a kid, my mom would keep her 7-kids in popcycles all summer long by making her own by pouring Kool-Aide into ice cube trays & placing popcycle sticks in them. I suppose you could do the same with Gatoraide popcycle treats or for instance, orange juice cubes to place in a pitcher/glass of OJ so as not to dilute it if you had an outdoor brunch.

If one lives in a very hot climate & likes ice cold beer, I wonder if beer-cycles wouldn't be a good idea to place in a glass of beer to keep it cool without diluting it? Perhaps shaved/shredded beer ice would be nice in a glass of beer? If anyone gives it a try, let me know. I'll test it out at home... of course, for CD experimental purposes only... VV
