Which OTC allergy meds works best for you? Our 17 yr old is having alot of nasal drainage and is already taking flonase but right now I feel like he needs something allergy wise to dry him up.

I've been taking prescription Allegra for years. It's the only one that worked. It was just released OTC this month!

Do you experience any drowsiness with it? One of my boys took it several years ago when it was prescription but is seemed like it made him sleepy.

No, I've never experienced drowsiness from it.

Zyrtec and it works well with flonaise. You may want to add Mucinex regular to help with the drainage before the Zyrtec. Less is better with kids

with most OTC meds for allergy will make you tired for a bit then you should acclimate to it and be fine so start taking in the evening first.

Zyrtec-D during the day. Claritin did not work for me, nor did Allegra. Benadryl works the best for me at night - it allows me to sleep and helps fight the major congestion that I always get at night. BTW - all the companies appear to have coupons and guarantees on their website, so it may be worth getting a good discount if you decide to try anything new. Good Luck! Allergies are no fun and the season appears to be starting early everywhere!

If you like Zyrtec, you should look into the generic at Costco. Seems like Zyrtec was about $25-30 for a month's worth. Costco's Aller-tec is about $17 for 365 tablets. Huge savings for the same ingredients.

I've used both and I can't tell any difference between the two.
