Chemical Sensitivity. Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. MCS. There has been a thread about it recently. It's not technically an allergy but you can get pretty sick.

Allergic rhinitis: MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia

Allergic rhinitis is an allergy that affects the nose.

The OP is referring to problems with odors. They could mean allergic rhinitis but I took it at face value, that they mean problems with strong smells. That's usually MCS, multiple chemical sensitivity.

What Is Multiple Chemical Sensitivity?

Maybe it's an allergy to something causing the strong smell. Does it matter what the smell is?

Or it could be just a general sensory issue, like people who get crashing headaches if the light is wrong.

particles of what ever is causing the smell are floating around in the air with the odor. Those particles are what are causing your allergy.
