What is in that to cause a reaction? I have had pierced ears for over 40 years. I can wear yellow gold going down to 9K. I can wear sliver. I can wear cheap hypo allergenic earrings.
My ears get infected, ooze, close up when I wear white gold. I am now putting peroxide on my ears after having pierced ears for over 40 years after wearing 18K White Gold for 2 days straight. I have also found that if I wear White Gold Rings, my fingers turn black. Well, at least that does not hurt.
A lot of gold alloys contain nickel, which can cause an allergic reaction in some people. Technically, it is the corrosion products that cause the problem. Gold needs to be at least 18 karat in order to be passive. Apparently in your case, 18K is not enough, or the rings are not actually 18K gold.
The only jewelry I wear is a stainless steel watch and band. I used to work in water & wastewater laboratories where stainless steel is the only metal that would hold up under those conditions. I would recommend 316 stainless or titanium.
I agree you are allergic to the nickel in the earrings . some rings turn my fingers black including the exspensive ones . I really peed my ex husband off once he got this 5 thousand dollar band for me and he had to take it back . He was like gosh you know I never had a gf / ex what have you who had that reaction to the expensive jewelry like I did and still do . oh well maybe that ring was telling me something cause the marriage sure did not last LOL ....
It really is the earrings that bother me more. White Gold gets my ears infected after 40+ years of pierced ears. I can live with black fingers. That doesn't hurt like infected ear lobes.
My husband gave a pair of diamond stud earrings decades ago set in 14K White Gold. Cannot wear those either. At least with those I can have the setting changed to yellow gold. Cannot do that with hoop earrings. My daughter will have to inherit those.
Yellow gold 14kt or above are the only earrings I can wear. I pretty much wear the same gold earrings 24/7and rarely take them out. I can get away with something other than gold for 24 hours or so. Have always heard nickel is a common problem. I can wear sterling rings with no effect at all.
