I have a reaction to tomatoes also, if I eat anything with tomato paste like pizza, pasta, v8 drinks I get extremely I'll! It instantly makes me shake, break out in sweats, I get hot and cold over n over again, my stomach gets nauseous and very heavy, messing with my breathing, and I vomit protroding vomit. It last usually that whole day and a little of the next! It makes me so scared cause I formed this allergy when I was 13 but before then I could enjoy tomatoes after that age I had stayed sick in and out of hospitals, doctors and one day my doctor and my mom realized that I got super sick like that when I ate things with tomato's in it. Idk what exactly in tomatoes that I'm allergic to but at this point I just stay away from them.

I have developed this intolerance completely out of the blue. Tomatoes have always been my favorite food, up until 1 week ago. I am 43 years old and have been eating tomatoes my whole life so its weird. If I have any raw, even just 2 slices, I will vomit and diarhea within 30 minutes. Does anyone know why this came on so quickly? So baffling.

Developed the same but at 60 !!
My experience is that my throat shuts/closes up and I start chucking up white bubbles of "acid" I assume and after a short while it's OK. Bread is starting to do that also I believe, and lord knows what else is going to start at my age.

My sister became allergic to fresh uncooked tomatoes, apples and few other fruits. Below is a link to an article with more details this oral allergy syndrome to fruits and vegetables

Many fruit allergies are due to proteins called profilins, which are often found in trees, grass and weed pollens as well as many fruits and vegetables. Around one third of pollen allergies are due to profilins, and people with hayfever to profilins may find that they experience symptoms after eating melon, watermelon, citrus fruits, tomato, and banana.

Don’t Eat Trigger Foods
The basic rule: If a food makes you uncomfortable, don’t eat it.
If it’s a favorite food, try these tips:
Cook it. Cooking often breaks down or alters the trigger proteins so that the immune system doesn't target them.
Peel it. Peeling fruits such as apples may help, because most trigger proteins are in the peel.
Can it. Canning also breaks down those proteins.

Every time I eat raw tomatoes, or have a few too many Bloody Mary's, or too much tomato soup, I get very sleepy the next day. And by the evening I will either have s cold sore on my lip or sores in the back of my throat.
I used to link the cold sores with a change in sleep patterns because it would always happen on the days that I couldn't resist taking a nap.
Finally I figured out the link. Tomatoes!!
But I LOVE tomatoes. Sometimes if I only have one slice and then drink a gallon of milk, I won't get the sores. But if I go for two or more slices of tomatoes, I'm done for the week recovering from a nasty cold sore or what feels like strep throat.
Does anyone have any suggestions or remitted for this???

Allergic to raw tomatoes
I've been called an oddball (lovingly) by my family because I can eat ketchup, spaghetti sauce, jarred salsa and canned tomatoes but can't eat fresh...I can hold them, squash them in my hands and smear them anywhere and be fine but if I eat a slice, my hands react! My fingertips (just the pad part) get bumpy and burn and turn dark red like they cooked and I'll get a quarter-sized mark in the center of my palms that does the same thing..they look like burn marks! The rest of my hands are fine! I usually run them under cold water or hold ice cubes til it goes away...about an hour or two and the marks would last for days...my grandfather had a problem with raw tomatoes too-but it has his FEET that got hot-we used to put a thermometer between his toes and watch it go up! Cheap entertainment

Tomatoes are from the nightshade family. I've had some negative reactions when I would eat fresh garden tomatoes, lots of extra body pain. I recently bought an heirloom tomatoe and had no issue but canned tomates, etc. are OK for me from my experiences. I deal with arthritis.

Yes, the nightshade family is highly allergenic and I know that my mother couldn't eat potatoes or tomatoes without a flare in her RA. She lived with that pain, rather than give up the foods.
Maybe something happens when the tomatoes are cooked and whatever it is you are reacting to, is changed. My husband has a similar problem--I'd better not make tomatoes until I ask him which it is--he either gets sick from the raw or the cooked! (He vomits or has diarrhea.) We don't eat too many tomatoes in this house, needless to say. I grow them and eat a few myself. Oh, I remember--he can eat the RAW tomatoes--he likes to eat the cherry tomatoes I grow. Just the opposite of you.
I wonder what it is that makes some people react to the cooked or processed and others react to the raw.

I have recently noticed that any kind of tomato - sauce in pizza, fresh tomato, etc. makes me have a terrible stomach pain, bloating, acid, etc. but it took me forever to realize it was the tomatoes because I've been eating these things my entire life (I'm 35 now) and the symptoms don't appear for 36-48 hours after I've eaten them. Has anyone else noticed this issue?
Has there been anything that can alleviate the symptoms? I am trying to avoid them but sometimes I think tomato is hidden in foods/sauces and I am not noticing that I'm eating it. I have tried all of the OTC meds - tums, pepcid, prilosec, activated charcoal and nothing seems to help.
