as a native of the pacific nw, i know there is no better place to live ... especially in portland ... with the outstanding city planning, the arts, the great people, and especially the clean, healthy environment.

as we all know too well, it is the rain rain rain that creates all this abounding beauty ... and it also creates the perfect environment for mold mold mold.

while our city is in great condition with regards to outdoor allergies, our indoor air quality is often-times a different story ... especially in all the beautiful old homes we love to live in here in the portland area.

a leaky roof, a broken or drippy pipe, even a foggy window makes for the perfect breeding ground for mold. the result can be itchy eyes, burning skin, a sore throat, a heavy chest, coughing, sneezing ... and any other array of allergy-like symptoms. for the especially-vulnerable; young children, the elderly, and those with upper-respiratory conditions, the consequences of a moldy environment may be much more severe.

the good news is that it can be easily handled by a mold remediation specialist if caught in time. and life is great again our beautiful city ...

I have friends that have had HORRIBLE allergy problems since living in Richmond, VA. - don't know why, it's pretty tough here in the Roanoke Valley, but they have more issues than we do.

I have allergy issues every time I visit the Outer Banks of NC (favorite place), not just me either, 10 of the 12 folks we go with also - so I can't really say what it's like if you live there.

To the person that doesn't think allergies are an issue - with all the products available - I'll share with you what my husbands long time friend (also an ENT DR) told him. "Just wait"! (and yes around his 59th birthday allergies began)

To anyone who doesn't suffer from allergies - I truly hope you never do!!!!

I cannot be out side much in the spring or I get sick. When I get sick, it sometimes says a week or more to start feeling better. Oh yea, I live in Houston and I think anywhere in east Texas if bad for allergies because of the pollen which is starting up
Same in North Texas. I didn't have any allergies when I lived in Southern California or Tucson Arizona. Less than a year after I moved to Texas, wham! I found out I was allergic to about 50 things, including pollen, mold, dogs, and unfortunately cats, which I lived my whole life with. It is so unfair that I have to stay away from an animal I love a lot for health reasons. Thanks, Texas!

And that is just one of many, many, many reasons why I want to return to SoCal. Even with the smog in SoCal, I only had one asthma medication. While, shortly after I moved to Texas, I had to be placed on 5 medications, 3 for asthma and 2 for allergies plus shots. I gave up on the shots after 5 years after I saw no improvement in my allergy symptoms. The only hope of me not having allergy symptoms is avoidance, which is far easier said than done here in Allergyville, Texas.

I never had allergies in my life - until I moved to Austin, Texas. I am almost 50 years old and they are totally wrecking my life. I can't workout because I get sick so much, I'm tired all the time and I am now starting to develop food allergies which means my diet is becoming restricted. This is in spite of having 10 years of allergy injections.

Before living here I thought people with allergies were just whiners. Boy was I wrong. Being covered head to toe with hives and living through 2 sinus infections every year certainly changed my tune. I'm trying to find a place to move to where I can get my health back.

If there is someplace, like Austin, that says there is an allergy problem, please take it seriously. You can't imagine what it will do to your health.

Oddly enough, northeast Kansas seems to be very bad for allergies.
