Anyone here have recipes for homemade hot drinks to relieve flu & cold symptoms? Would like to hear some made with ginger root, too.

The only one I know is from my childhood: mother would squeeze a fresh lemmon, add hot water and honey to it and make me drink a whole glass of it .

Hot tea and honey, hot tea and whiskey, there's a whole line of hot herbal teas made for helping cold and flu symptoms. Google up the Traditional Medicinals tea brand and see if any local stores carry em. They'd be in the organic area.

I've always found that limones (those little key limes) seem to work better than just lemons, and they have to be fresh squeezed. Bottled lemon or lime juice has no effect. Just use them to make hot lemonade, spiked with things from the spice rack like cloves, cinnamon, allspice.

Hot peppermint tea, a shot of whisky, a little honey. Hold it under your chin and inhale the vapors between sips. Works wonders to break up congestion and clear the sinuses.

Hot water with honey, lemon, fresh ginger root and a little cayenne pepper, let it all steep and drink up. Worked for the nasty cold I caught last month.

My mother liked to use lemon juice and my mother-in-law, whiskey in tea--didn't think to combine both Great idea--thanks. There's something to the sweating--hence, the popularity of saunas and steam baths among certain cultures.

Will try this combo next time but minus the cayenne, please. Thanks!

Before bed, try this: mix boiling water half and half with Blackberry brandy...add a twist of lemon or a bit of lemon juice if you wish. Breathe in the fumes as you drink. Nighty night.
