They rather give venom to the ill than Opium or weed - the only efficient pain killers for me, morphine makes me seasick.
As long as they can fight on their stupid and murderous War Against Drugs...
Interesting. Mamba venom is a highly potent neurotoxin. That they could synthesize a pain killer from it is not surprising so much as it has just never been tried. The drug would still have to bind with opiate receptors in the brain to have the desired effect, but without the addictive qualities? I wonder.
I saw a show years ago where they were using mamba venom components and introducing them to cross sections of human spinal cord (body donor) and seeing how they would bind.
Dr. Bryan Greg Fry is an aussie venom researcher that has been on a few TV specials over the years and I know he's done work with various venoms including sea snakes in particular.
Cool. Now...where do I catch one of those bad boys?
Yes....this is the way some people actually "think"...
Heh. Not too many mambas on display in the US given the zoo association rules or so I've heard. Basically most of the major US zoos do NOT have the more dangerous species on display (Mambas, king cobras etc.)
I wouldn't be shocked if there were a lot more mambas in private collections in the US than in public settings.
Elowa Farms (northern Chicago burbs smack in the middle of million dollar homes) has a few and of course the black hills reptile institute has everything.
