I would suggest you should go see a doctor cause if you are having cough problem for more then 3 - 4 months then may be it is the symptom of lung cancer. do you feel breathe shortness? or continuous wheezing with cough? there are usually no early symtoms of lung cancer, if you are having continuous cough problem then do consult a good doctor.
I've already tried a few herbal teas. They did nothing.
I plan on going back to the clinic tomorrow. This cough is really stressing me out and I'm fed up. I had all these plans that I put on hold because of this cough, like trying to lose weight which is pretty difficult to do when drinking cold or warm water makes me cough. It's slowing down my job hunt too. I AM SERIOUSLY FED UP. Do you think that now that my nose isn't dry anymore, the doctor might find something else that could be causing my cough? I think I'll lose my sanity if this cough doesn't go away.
Do you have acid reflux? Acid reflux can also cause coughing. OTC Rantidine might be something you can give a try. Also, be sure that you do not lay down after eating or eat before bed. You will also have to avoid bending over right after eating or drinking....avoid soft drinks etc. Check online to see other things to avoid, should you have acid reflux. Sometimes, the best bet is doing your detective work and trying to eliminate things. After all, a doctor is going to prescribe all kinds of different things for you. Their "job" is to alleviate your suffering....even if it means prescribing one pill after another...not having a CLUE what's really going on. LOL

It's also the symptom of allergic reactions to air-born allergens (such as dust and "sick-building syndrome"). It's also the symptom of COPD, and chronic bronchitis. It's also the symptom of a person who has no actual disease, but is a long-term smoker. It's also the symptom of some people who cough all winter, because the air is too dry. It's also the symptom of some people who cough all summer, because the air is too moist. It's also the symptom of any number of things.
In other words, it isn't "THE" symptom of anything specific at all. It is *A* symptom of many, many things - of which lung cancer is one.
So I went to a different clinic today and they did an X-ray on me. The doctor found nothing in them but the radiologist will take a look at them and then get back to me. I'll be going back in 2 weeks to see the lung specialist there and they'll get a look at it also.
Something I thought of but didn't ask or tell the doctor about it, do you think my messy, dusty room could be the cause for the cough? If I clean up and get rid of most of the dust, do you think it could help?
A 21 year old non smoker with a cough for a month??? The poster stated the cough started around the first of the year, it is now the 2nd week of February.
By definition, a cough isn't considered "chronic" unless it has lasted 8 weeks or more.
I think its pretty clear who doesn't know what they are talking about here....
A cough lasting longer than three weeks should be checked out. A cough lasting three weeks or more can be a sign of tuberculosis, or other serious conditions.

Yes, it could be the cause, and yes, cleaning it could help. The only caveat - if you stir up the dust by dusting the room, it might trigger a few coughing spasms during the process. Those will subside once the room is cleaned up. Pick stuff up and put them away first, then use a Swiffer duster (or generic brand of the same thing). It'll reduce the amount of dust that gets stirred up into the air, as opposed to a normal dustcloth or a rag and dusting spray.

Sounds like there is some house cleaning in your future! It sounds as if it is due, and if the cough is due to an airborne inhalant it may help. Clean up while you wait to see the lung specialist. Consider wearing a dust mask when you do it or get someone else to do it for you.

Heavens yes, clean up but wear a dust mask and try very hard not to stir up dust any more than you have to. Wash everything even if clean. What about mold? Dust and mold often go together and even if you do have mold, it could be that getting rid of the dust will help b/c with allergies the more stuff you pile on the more likely you are to react. If it's been awhile since you cleaned you may find mold growing on surfaces under piles of clothes or dressers and it doesn't have to be black mold to make you sick. Vinegar and water is fairly effective to clean it up. Link: How to Get Rid of Mold
Do you have pets? I had a cat once that I loved dearly but after she passed on I never got another cat b/c I was allergic (not in an obvious way) and I'm much healthier now.

Wear a good dust mask and YES...get rid of that dust. It's too bad that you don't have a friend who's working in a lab right now. You'd be completely shocked at all of the microorganisms piled into that dust. Use a Q-tip to gather a bit of that, spread it on an agar medium in a petri dish and prepare to be horrified when you see the multitudes of nasties growing. LOL
