I had used everything under the sun including Prilosec and Nexium, and nothing worked or had side effects including almost ALL acid reduction - which is a bad thing.
But I actually swear by a Walgreens brand Cimetidine 200. I use it only when I need it and it works miracles. Sometimes I take it before I eat if I know I'm going to eat something spicy. Or if I have heartburn, I take it with a glass of water and within 15 mins I'm in 7th heaven.

No kidding here: If you keep up your water intake every day, you won't need much in the way of meds. I used to get heartburn all the time until I learned that.

Check into vinegar. Yes it is an acid but it works.

That's probably true, but I'd use it judiciously. It also sucks all the nutrients out of your food intake.

I went vegetarian for a month and it seemed to help me thou not if I eat a huge salad before bed. I'm now on a ketogenic diet but I still eat a lot of green vegetables. Ketogenic and vegetarian diets do seem to effect the stomach in different ways. My stomach started digesting vegetables better after some time. Vegetables are suppose to increase acid content I think it also increases stomach growth and reduces ingestion. Keto on the other hand slows everything down, makes you less hungry and shrinks your stomach. Keto is a very advanced diet and its much harder to keep your electrolytes in balance. If you do it wrong you can die from electrolyte imbalances or get kidney stones/gout.

Isn't the ketogenic diet usually overseen by a doctor?
