I had this work done years ago first by an old time chiropractor and then some yrs later by a physical therapist. This was for a nasty nasty sciatic nerve issue after hysterectomy.
I'm really glad I saw this post, thank you for sharing this information.... a couple months ago I began to have out of the blue unexplained pain in my lower leg bone, as well as around my lower spine.. seems worse at night or when I'm walking but it's even painful when I'm sitting. My hmo doctor is kind of lame, I don't see him seriously investigating my pain as well as unbearable tired and weak-- so I'm going to look into this fascia treatment.
For this work, one has to go out of conventional MD's. My 90 yr old neighbor is seeing our D.O. who does cranial work etc and she does pelvic floor work too, so for now it is working on upper body issues and starting first of year, D.O. will address pelvic work as my friend has a lot of pelvic pain. You live long enough, pain will hit us in many areas.
Do you think Pilates could serve this role if I can't afford to pay a d.o.??
Hard to know until you try. I did some pilates yrs ago but without the pilate tables...it was mat work on the floor. Check it out and talk to pilate places/instructors.
I see a myofascial release specialist every few weeks who does this type of work. I can't recommend it enough. I pay plenty, but he is excellent, and has helped me immensely with my issues. As much as it costs, it is way cheaper than any surgery, which I was told many years ago I would need eventually. At 68 I am still dancing, bike riding and doing most everything I want to do. My pains are kept to a minimum between my constant movement and my bodywork sessions.
GC: If one has never had this work, one could never know. I was in sheer agony after hysterectomy years ago and the old chiro knew this work and released that nerve from where it was causing the misery. Or whatever he released. Glad you are still dancing, I've hung my shoes up due to a lot of issues in the last 10 yrs or so, starting with the messy hip replacement. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....
