I know, it is really all a mystery, isn't it? One of my uncle-in-laws made it to 98 years old and passed peacefully in his sleep. He ate whatever he wanted, smoke until later years of his life. He was an active gardener and got plenty of sun. His wife passed from cancer decades before him. She never smoked or drank, was moderately active but did love some sweets. It just seems like the luck of the draw.
The foods on the shelf today are poor imitations of foods that former generations ate.
Pesticides, GMO, factory farming, poor soil/soil degradation, processing, pasturazing, additives, chemicals, preservatives .... were eating chemical concoctions, not real food. And that goes for supposed *organic* foods too. They tweak the status and now carageenen, a known carcinogen, is allowed in prepared organic food.

We are living in another world. Literally.
Carrageenan is NOT a known carcinogen....
It has also been allowed in organic foods forever...nothing was recently "tweaked" to allow carrageenan to be added to organic foods....it has been in organic foods for decades....that may change in the next couple of years but not due to any science showing harm
Carrageenan has been used in foods for centuries....so those former generations of yours were eating carrageenan.

"In 2001, Somers was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had a lumpectomy, and radiation, but declined to undergo chemotherapy. In November 2008, Somers announced she was diagnosed with inoperable cancer by six doctors, but she learned a week later that she was misdiagnosed. During this time, she interviewed doctors about cancer treatments and these interviews became the basis of her book, Knockout, about alternative treatments to chemotherapy."
The only thing that cured her breast cancer in 2001 was surgery (a lumpectomy) and radiation. Statistically 91% of women who undergo this treatment do not get a recurrence of cancer in the same breast. Somers' cancer never re-occurred.

Wonder if Somers worked with grape seed extract and iodine for breast health? I did not read her books but used her Thigh Master for years (another topic) for SS..
Talking to my daughter last night about reaching my 80 yr milestone and talking about her friend who is going thru cancer now. Chemo and had a hysterectomy but still dealing...her friend smoked and drank alcohol so much of her life and wasn't aware of quality foods ... I assured my daughter I would NOT get cancers and due to my Grape Seed....one has to believe in something..putting positive affirmations in their minds and bodies.
What we put in our bodies can catch up with us. Smoking for sure, but yes, there are long livers who smoked till they died.

No. Not true. It's a highly processed additive that comes from seaweed. So, no, people have not been eating it for "generations."
"Although the International Agency for Research on Cancer in 1982 identified sufficient evidence for the carcinogenicity of degraded carrageenan in animals to regard it as posing a carcinogenic risk to humans, carrageenan is still used widely as a thickener, stabilizer, and texturizer in a variety of processed foods prevalent in the Western diet."

Nope....wrong again....learn a little "history" before commenting again...
The term "carageenan" goes back to 1820's when it was first added to foods in Ireland...
Before that seaweed preparations go back centuries BC in China....
So yes, it has been added to foods for GENERATIONS...
There is also NO evidence that carrageenan is carcinogenic...
The article you linked by Tobacman has been refuted many times over and is the ONLY reference to carageenan and carcinogenic risk...main problem is the "degraded carrageenan" she describes doesn't occur in nature and has no relevance to the carrageenan used in food preparation...
"McKim's research exposes fundamental flaws in Tobacman's evidence, adds to the vast body of scientific research demonstrating carrageenan safety and thoroughly debunks certain groups' claims that carrageenan is harmful and should be removed from foods. For more information about carrageenan and other ingredients and additives used in food production, please visit www.foodingredientfacts.org." https://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...300311646.html

Generations? Not for anyone in my family.

Degraded carrageneen has been found in food tested specifically for carrageenan.
"In 2012, Joanne K. Tobacman, MD, who has published multiple peer-reviewed studies that address the biological effects of carrageenan, addressed the National Organic Standards Board on this issue and urged reconsideration of the use of carrageenan in organic foods. According to Dr. Tobacman, her research has shown that exposure to carrageenan causes inflammation and that when we consume processed foods containing it, we ingest enough to cause inflammation in our bodies. That’s a problem since chronic inflammation is a root cause of many serious diseases including heart disease, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, and cancer.
Dr. Tobacman also told the board that in the past, drug investigators used carrageenan to cause inflammation in tissues to test the anti-inflammatory properties of new drugs. And she reported further that when laboratory mice are exposed to low concentrations of carrageenan for 18 days, they develop “profound” glucose intolerance and impaired insulin action, both of which can lead to diabetes. She maintains that both types of carrageenan are harmful and notes that, “degraded carrageenan inevitably arises from higher molecular weight (food grade) carrageenan.” Research suggests that acid digestion, heating, bacterial action and mechanical processing can all accelerate degradation of food-grade carrageenan."

If you want to eat it, go ahead. Eat it by the boatload. I don't care. But don't tell other people that it's safe. It's not.
