So I attended the Summer Olympics in China this past summer and while in China, I developed a mild inflammation in the back of my throat. It exists to this day. I had it checked out while I was in China and they had no real answers except proscribing me LOADS of different antibiotics.

I tried everything and went to a specialist at Duke Hospital to have it check it out. They did the whole insert a camera down your nose thing and found nothing to be concern about except for some thick saliva.

But it just feels like the back of my throat is slightly inflamed all the time, it does not affect swallowing or talking but it is very annoying at times. It is not painful.

Does anyone ever had a similar problem? And is there anything I can try in the home remedy category to help ease the annoyance?

Is it possible you have sinus trouble? I know when my sinuses are acting up, I have thick saliva/mucus at the back of my throat and it's always sore. And I'm allergic to my cat, so they're ALWAYS acting up I'd try a Zyrtec and see if that helps!

Or Claritin - just take it for a week and see if you feel better.

Default Try nasal irrigation!

Yes! my friend had exact same symptoms as you have, and additionally he also had on and off cough. Tried every single treatment including antibiotics, even saw gastroenterologist, but nothing worked. In the end he was referred to an allergist who did a set of tests and found out he was actually allergic to some kind of dust! Anyhow, for treatment, he was asked to do nasal irrigation and it actually worked! I have been a chronic sunusitis patient for years, and nasal irrigation has helped me tremendously! They sell these sinus wash in cvs, that you can use for nasal irrigation. Check link here... Product Detail: CVS Instant Relief Sinus Wash Refill Saline Packets from CVS/pharmacy Online Product Store

Hope that helps!

I'd see an allergist, especially living in NC!

This will not solve it but gargle with Listerine before you crash to help reduce germs over night.
Otherwise you need antibiotics
