Hey there. My sister thinks I should try other alternatives. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and FM, as well as Epilepsy.
She thinks that over the years, all of the medicines I have had to take are causing more problems. This may be true.
I have had epilepsy since I was 11, RA, FM dx at around 33.
I have concern, of course for my RA. I am requesting I be on a stronger medication, as the one I am on just is not working. I have 2 good days in a week, where I am not in pain, or unable to walk, function, etc. My dr blames it on the fm. While I do know that a lot of my problems rest in the fm, I know that others do not, as it is my body. My rf is positive, but lower than most RA patients. He does not see the inflammation on certain labs so it can't be the RA. He tells me my RA is positive, but not positive enough! What does that mean?!?!?!
Anyway, my sister is encouraging me to use natural medicine, or alternative/holistic medicine.
I am afraid of it, and I know nothing about it. Right now, my joints are not damaged much, and I want it to stay that way.
I don't know if they can keep it that way or if I need to continue to put these poisons in my body. I take Methotrexate, which is a form of chemotherapy, and have taken Humira in the past, which has helped me sustain an almost healthy life. Now I have a possible 2 good days a week, and then, I took Humira once per two weeks, and had 2 bad days in that time period, just before it was time to take it again.
I am actually at a place where I don't have faith in my dr, and I don't know if I should try something different, for fear that my joints may start to get damaged/crippled.
Does anyone have any knowledge on this at all? I sure don't.
I would read the Dr Mercola link. Also, find and visit a medical doctor in your area who is also trained in alternative medicine like Dr Mercola. Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)

I keep hearing about more cases like this. I work in mental health and there are a ton of clients who have back problems and are fighting with similar situations. I also have a close business associate who suffers from MS. He told me a while back about a holistic approach he has been using to help relieve the chronic pain he has been feeling. He is still on certain meds. Today, he is still using this approach and has told me that his pain and inflammation has been significantly reduced.

What about your diet? Have you changed anything in it? Many people don't know that several foods can affect the joints. Dairy and the nightshade family of vegetables are among them but the #1 culprit and the most ubiquitous is wheat. Here's one of the many different sources that talks about it, who knows if by making this one change you may not need anything else...

You have a very smart sister that is giving you good advice. Take some responsibility for your own health. Begin by researching the internet, learning about the drugs you are taking. Learn about natural remedies and holistic health care. What you are receiving is sick care, not health care. You have nothing to fear and everything to gain. Holistic Remedies For Rheumatoid Arthritis | LIVESTRONG.COM Holistic Arthritis Remedies | eHow.com
Please start learning about alternative treatments. Do not attempt to mix n match, while taking prescription drugs. They may counteract eachother or worse. Also don't expect your doctor to support alternative therapy, as a rule they want to keep you dependent upon them and the system.
