Hi, I live in Southern Ecuador. I haven't been to Cusco but I get constant trip reports from people passing through.
The impression i get is that it is beautiful, but quite overpriced. If you have the money to burn, go for it. People also say that it is a very spiritual feeling place. Making the full Inca trail hike is a wonderful experience and parts of it can be quite challenging.
Ecuador is worth the visit as well. Beautiful little country with lots of variety. Jungle, mountains, and ocean can be seen all in a single day.
