Alot of African Americans do not know that there is is a African descended diaspora throughout Latin America. Henry Gates did a series called Black in Latin America. But he didn't touch up on a countries with other significant Black populations.
Here's the video.

Those people where not born in Africa.
Their parents where not born in Africa.
Their grandparents where not born in Africa.
So, why are they an "African diaspora"?
And almost all of them have some European ancestry. Are them "European diaspora" too?

Well MalaMan, this is one of the mysteries of US American way of thinking. Even when it comes to AA's, most of them have been in the USA for far longer than most other people. It is true they were severely mistreated for decades, but I think its time for those AA's with an African 'homeland nostalgia' to simply let that go, and those who don't want to let it go should seriously consider moving to one of those African countries.
Its funny that no one goes around talking about the 'European diaspora' and at the same time include all the descendants of Europeans since the day Columbus arrived, including those of mixed race too.

Well since Black Americans were robbed of their culture and identity, can you really blame them for trying to have some sort of connection to the continent of their ancestral origins. Even you know that when looking at the entire African Diaspora, Black Americans are one of the least culturally tied groups to Africa.

The big difference is that the European Diaspora largely came from immigration while the African Diaspora was largely due to the slave trade. It's an apples to oranges comparison.

Because they are descended from the slaves who came from the same part of West Africa as other slave descendants. Many African Americans and Afro Brazilians are descended from the same stock of Angolans for example. Most Afro descendants in the New World are related to each other in some way.
Just by looking at Afro Latinos culturally. Their cultures have a stronger African influence than African Americans in the US. We just don't do any of that stuff that was shown in the video because it was stripped away from us during slavery.

Many AAs and other Afrodiasporic people are considered white or not black or not African in many African countries when they go to visit Africa thinking that the motherland of Africa and it's people will be accepted and embraced with open arms. AAa and other Afrodiasporic peoples are in for a rude awakening when they travel to the African continent lmao.
And many African traditions brought to the Western Hemisphere had already been fused and mixed with heavy Arab, Muslim cultural traditions and influences as well as even Jewish and Roman influences since Arabs were and still are continuing to oppress and enslave Africans.

There are some European diaspora and mixed race European diaspora groups online and in real life actually.
Also look up the growing concept of multiracial whiteness.

Most Americans are also ignorant of the European diaspora in the Americas, lol. They think Latin America is just Mestizos below the Rio Grande.
