If you like beaches with lots of green, many coconut trees, and almost no dunes, I recommend the coast between Porto Seguro in Bahia, and Pipa in Rio Grande do Norte.
If you like beaches that are not so green, but have almost as many dunes as the Sahara, I recommend the coast between Genipabu (north of Natal) and Sao Luis in Maranhao.
Natal is the "border" between the two kinds of coast.
Any beach south of Porto Seguro has cold waters, so, don't go there if you want to swim in warm waters.
Although further to the South than you'd like, Buzios is simply amazing. Really, it is a gorgeous area. Some of the ocean vistas are breathtaking.
Buzios is pricey, but worth it.
Not far from Buzios is another small coastal town called, Arraial do Cabo, not far outside of Cabo Frio. Further South past Rio, many people speak highly of Paraty (quiet) - and especially Angra dos Reis (lush and expensive).
