Read this testimonial Sean Penns of the world and tell me if you still think Cuba is paradise:

"This is very good news that makes me tremendously happy. ... With my first paycheck I'm going to buy a toy for my youngest grandson, who's 3," said Soraida Pina, a 62-year-old nurse. "This will open new doors for me."

Her salary was double and she is happy because now she can afford a freaking toy.

I would pay to see Sean Penns, Moore, etc, living in Cuba with 250 pesos a month (divided by 25 = 10 dollars).

US dollars are converted to Cuban "tourist script " that is spendable anywhere in the country.

Canadians travel to Cuba a lot. We also trade with them, a lot. Canada sells machinery, raw materials, and appliances and lumber to Cuba. They sell us sugar, rum, cigars, and rice.

Cuban adult students come to study at Canadian Universities, and Cuban Doctors come to Canada, to improve their medical knowledge, and expertise.

Toronto.

But if an American goes to Cuba without an OFAC license (treasury dept.) they are fined. Sure, the passports are not stamped, but there are no secrets nowdays.

US Dollars are converted into CUCs with a penalty, the currency used to buy most of things in Cuba.

Rum, cigars, yes, no sugar (Cuba imports sugar from the US) and no rice (Cuban rice comes from Vietnam).

Canadian tourists are mostly package tourists that visit all-inclusive cheap hotels, "turistas de motel" according to the words of the maximum authority. They love to wear Che t-shirts and put down Americans, so they are not very popular because Cubans (even communist ones) are not anti-american. They might put down Obama and the "evil empire", but they are not anti-american considering that north Havana is 90 miles away.

One thing that I love about Cuba is that there are no "progressives" or "leftists". They might repeat propaganda like a Cuban parrot, but nobody believes in any of those theories. I have seen Canadians leftists, communist union members, talking lots of crap about Cuba..and everybody agrees like if he/she was a fool.

Canadian presence is mainly through Sherrit and some other extractive company, but not many products are bought in Canada because past problems of liquidity.

Cubans do have a longer life expectancy than most other Caribbean nations. However they also have a much lower birth rate. It would be interesting to compare LE from age 10, instead of just from birth.

In any country of the world, you are going to have some infant mortality which changes LE. The more children, the more infant mortality.

Those are fines are rarely enforced. Americans visit Cuba all the time both, directly and indirectly.

Nobody knows Cuban life expectancy or infant mortality.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Just for Cuban-Americans.

The Caribbean students who go to Cuban universities report how poor the people are. While they are grateful to the Cuban gov't for the scholarships (they don't need to be as these scholarships are offered in exchange for votes at international forums) they definitely would NOT be tempted to remain, as do most Caribbean people who study at North American universities.
