I could probably find dulce de leche and mate in the United States..

The thing about the US is that most things are pretty easy to get from anywhere..

Go in to a latino shop and you found what you're looking for. All my Indian friends never believed that they would find any of their "rare indian spices" and then I took them to the Indian store on the corner and they found everything.

The only thing you can find unique in any country are the products of artisans. Jewellery is probably the best to sell.
Years ago I found a street location in Caracas where inmates from penitentiaries were able to sell their crafts. I bought beautiful items of excellent artistic execution, all patiently hand made from bracelets to pendants to earings. I bought a lot of these items--I wish more. The ladies were very anxious to have them.
I wish I could tell you the location. It was a pedestrian underpass maybe near Plaza Bolivar.
Jewellery and crafts are small and are easily carried home.
