Hi guys i will be in Rio for a month on vacation. I would like to ask about some local tips, good places to visit and enjoy some authentic food. safe places to go out at night. How are prices - do i need to bring some cash or i can just use my bank cards from the states? Am I going to get lots of charges in bank fees? What do you think, any advice will be appreciated. Best regards!!!

Using ATMs in Rio is not so simple because only Citibank and HSBC works for international cards. So its nice to always have some cash to avoid problems. Prices are high in many things, but there are lot of fun for free.
Read turist guides like "Lonely Planet" and "Michelin", and then check the websites on the internet to make your decisions. Being winter, its a nice season to hike, so look for a nice eco guide, and enjoy very beautiful views in the Atlantic Jungle that is very present in the city.

Just don't carry to much cash at the same time, stay in Ipanema and Copacabana and you will be fine.

When you say "stay" do you mean lodging only or stay as in don't leave Ipanema/Copa?
That would be a boring month after a few days if the OP remained in that area the entire trip.

Lapa is the most busy place at night, far from Ipanema and Copacabana...
No Carioca would suggest Ipanema or Copacabana as the best places at night... maybe in 1950...
