That's quite common in Argentina. In fact, the question is not who's of recent Italian origin but rather who isn't. Trust me, it's much easier to do the counting that way. LOL

Argentinean Spanish is loaded with Italian words and their way of speaking has an evident Italian swing.

The very first time I met an Argentinean was in elementary school. She was one of my second grade teachers. She's not one of my favorite of teachers, but still memorable.

That means nothing, look at the Argentinian football (soccer) team for example. Most players have italian surnames.
