Which is more dangerous - Colombia in the 1980s or 1990s, or Venezuela these days? Conversely, which is safer - Venezuela in the 1980s or 1990s, or Colombia these days?

colombia and venezuela are almost the same thing

it is as if you'd take english speaking Canada and cut it in half

alberta, BC, Saskatchewan = venezuela
Manitoba, Ontario = Colombia

that is how similar they are

venezuela has an immense amount of oil, so in the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's they had a massive economic boom, Venezuela back in those days was sort of like Dubai today, the place to go make tons of money, with modern architecture, modern cities with fantastic infrastructure, wealthy.... while colombia was a dangerous place war torn by the marxist guerrilla las farc.

Then the cycle changed

around the 90's oil prices plummeted and so did venezuela's economy while colombia started to see a decline in crime, poverty and chaos. then came chavez for venezuela who sent the country in the chaos it is today

while colombia is now the land of opportunity with a booming economy where you go to make tons of money and to create industry because there is a lot of opportunity for everything.

it's interesting how everything works n cycles.

Colombia had a homicide rate of 70 per 100k in the 1990's, Venezuela only 20 per 100k.

Most to least dangerous:
1.1990's Colombia
2.Venezuela Now
3.1980's Colombia
4.Colombia Now
5.1990's Venezuela
6.1980's Venezuela

Venezuela is worse, especially in Caracas where things are simply out of control.

In reality its not comparable because for much of the second half of the 20th century Colombia suffered from a paramilitary war fueled by marxists and drug traffickers. Venezuela has never suffered from that. The current crime problem in Venezuela is due to the economic crisis that marxists created and the upsurge of drug trafficking through its territory.

So even though 1980s/1990s Colombia and present-day Venezuela have both been dangerous, they've each been dangerous for different reasons and in different ways?
