"Jamaican gays and lesbians will be staging its first Pride celebration in August, the Jamaica Forum of Lesbians, All-Sexuals and Gays (J-FLAG) has announced.
PRiDEJA 2015 will be held under the theme. "The Pride of a People: Breaking the Rules of Oppression".
JFLAG is using crowd funding site GoFundMe to raise funds for the project, noting on the website that "Every dollar raised will support our mission to bring our diverse community together for a moment of celebration."
The exact date of the celebration has not been disclosed as yet but JFLAG said "This independence festival will be attended by over 1,000 persons."
That's a dangerous proposition. I once read that Jamaica is one of the most homophobic countries on the planet. People there are killed simply for being suspected of being gay, which is messed up. Its wrong regardless if the person is gay or not, but if you are not gay and some duffus thinks you are and kills you, that is simply worse!
I think the whole Caribbean is very homophobic. The most accepting places seems to be the Spanish Caribbean, with Puerto Rico leading the region.

Killing someone because they are gay rarely happens down there...there is a strong anti-gay feeling, not denying that however...there really has been a lot of overseas pressure on this issue at a time when the island is in a deep, economic crisis...the issue is a diversion...doesn't rank in the top 10 of issues facing Jamaica
As Antonio mentioned, security - not only during the festival but also in a daily basis - is the most important issue. If the festival is followed by murderes and violence, it will be useless.

There's a famous gay comedian in Jamaica who roams freely across the island without fear. Yes, homophobia is a serious issue in Jamaica, but gays aren't being exterminated like some suggest.
Jamaica
Sex between men is illegal, hate crimes are alarmingly common and the government seems reluctant to protect gays from violence. Top Twelve Most Homophobic Nations
6. Jamaica
If you ever want to know what it’s like to live in constant, mind-numbing mortal terror, try declaring yourself gay in Jamaica. People suspected of being LGBT are frequently beaten and attacked with machetes. In 2010, a 16-year-old was hacked to death in his home for having “questionable relations” with another man. People have been knifed and set on fire under suspicion of being gay, and the funerals of gay men have previously been attacked by mobs armed with rocks and bottles.
Then there’s the government. Currently, having gay sex in Jamaica will net you up to 10 years in prison—if you’re lucky. If you’re unlucky, the corrupt local police will extort money from you, torture you, or beat you to a pulp, and then throw you in jail. For local LGBT people, the place is nothing short of a living nightmare. 10 Countries That Completely Hate Gay People
I wouldn't be surprised if the Jamaican government allow this parade to take place so the police can have a field day arresting people for breaking the law.
Buggery is illegal in Jamaica...its a holdover from the old British system..as it is, nobody goes to jail for that law...it is rarely if ever prosecuted...unless people are actually going to be performing buggery in public at this supposed parade, there would be nothing for the Police to legally arrest you for...the gay agenda is being forced on the island because it makes a tempting target...an extremely popular but weak country that unfortunately has a lot of anti-gay lyrics in a musical art form that is internationally popular (dancehall reggae)...Jamaica is very well known but does not have the oil of Saudi Arabia that will allow outsiders to leave it alone...so pro gay activists take a real problem of gay bashing and try to make it seem like everyday mayhem...this is fuelled in part by gay Jamaicans that exaggerate their struggles to get access to wealthier nations...the island is being bullied into rapidly accepting something that wealthier nations are allowed to gradually accept as societal norms change

Maybe he can because he is famous, but there have been enough documented attacks on gays and I suspect that lesbians might have it even worse.
And this is a country where 15 y/o pregnancies are fairly common, with the baby daddies almost always over 20. It is of no shock if the "daddy" is a preacher!
I am amazed out how biblical some people are when they break at least 5 of the 10 commandments daily.
