When I was living/working in Peru, I used to tease all the Peruvians that traveled to Chile that 'they were vacationing in Chile for the food Actually Peruvians consider Chilean food unworthy of consumption.
I was surprised how bland Chilean food was however, we did manage to find some nice restaurants in Chile and they have excellent fresh fruits and veggies not to mention some of the best wines in the world. About Chilean versus Peruvian Pisco....I have to vote Peruvian but Chilean Pisco Sour was not bad.
I didn't find Chilean food bland just less rich and spicy than the rest of the LatAm countries. Chileans like a lot of meat and potatoes but the stereotype of bland food adds to the saying that Chile is the UK of LatAm.
Peru is my favorite but Chile is amazing too if you can survive the food
Too true about the local cuisine, but what do you expect from people who think black pepper is a poison? A way to get around it is to find restaurants in Chile run by Peruvians. One plus for Chile is the police. As dumb gringos driving around we made mistakes and got stopped twice, and the Carabineros were professional but totally cool. Very different from the cops you might encounter under similar circumstances here in the USA.
Colombia, the most beautiful women in the world, exquisite natural beauty and second in Biodiversity only to Brazil. I love it as does my wife who was born there.

Lol. My Brazilian mother in law thinks Black pepper is SUPER hot. She would die if she tried Mexican food.

I think Chile is the second best run Latin American country at the moment. It's significantly cheaper than similarly developed countries of Argentina and Uruguay, electronics and clothes are like half the price of the other two! It's very calm and secure. One thing holding back Chile is the inequality and the long working hours, which disproportionately benefit the rich. Peru has a much better icnome distribution and I think in fifteen years Peru can become a very powerful country
