It takes a lot of time... but at least growing up we made a lot a freezed them and usually had a some left over by Easter in the freezer. I bought the stuff to make them a few years ago because my mom was working.... then to my amazement my dad went ahead and made them by himself
so I never bothered. I need a new press ( I have no time to roll out each one ... that is just insane
). I borrowed by parents and need to give it back. I prefer these things home made. I never really like the ones I buy outside as much. They freeze better then empanadas made with corn flour.
You should totally go for it. I am going to do mine in phases (if it takes too long or I run out of time I am going to just make empanadas with the filling and dough instead
). I make the filling the night before. Then the dough and assembly the next day when doing empanadas. I hope this idea works just as well when doing tamales. I like doing this stuff while watching tv. It goes by faster.
If you do try to make them let us know how it turns out
!
I was talking to my freind from Guatemala her family turns the making of tamales in to a family party. Everyone gets together and helps. In my family growing up it was more of a sweat shop enviroment lol then a party... but in general more help ex an assembly line system helps you make more faster.
