I will be visiting Medellin this year to see my friend and his family, and so I was hoping to bring into my carry on bag a bunch of older iPhone 5S's (like 5 or 10) of them. They would be to give as gifts to my friend and his family members.
Has anyone else ever done this before, and if I did, what would they do to me at the Airport security counter, when they scanned my bag, and saw 5 or 10 iPhones in it ??
Any idea if they would "Detain ' me , or just let me pass, if I declared it on my customs form ?
Depends, if you're bringing 10 iPhones you might be ok (perhaps they'll want to ask you about them, if the iPhones look used they'll probably just assume they're gifts).... however if you're bringing 60 brand new iPhones then they might want to know what's going on.
If you're unsure regarding whether you should declare those iPhones or not, you can always ask the airline via phone call.
Word of advice: Don't put electronics such as your laptop, cameras, phones on your checked in bag.... have them with you on the carry on inside the plane. (In Europe I made the stupid mistake of leaving my camera in my checked bag only to have it stolen at the airport in Paris). "A handler I am sure"
Put them in your checked bag. You may raise suspecion. They likely going to think you are trying to sell them.
