No. In Brazil the millions of Italians who emigrated here were 90% farm workers mostly from Veneto in north Italy the poorest Italian province in this epoch.
So the Italians who came to Brazil were not urban people from Sicilia or Naples like many who emigrated to the USA so because that I think the mafia did not come together them here.
In terms of the Italian population in the USA, the percentage in the mafia has always been insignificant, statistically speaking. 5,000 mafia members at its height (significantly less now) to nearly 15 million Italians living in the USA. The media and Hollywood always made it seem that there were more Italians in the mob then there actually were. Thus was born the stereotype.
But going to the issue of Argentina and Brazil, yes a good part of the initial immigration were from Northern Italian, but eventually, a greater number came from southern Italy. In many ways, integration was easier for Italian immigrants in those nations because of a commonality of Catholicism, a similar type language, i.e. a Romance language, and similar, not identical, cultural views.
One common practice for Italians was to emigrate to Argentina, move to Brazil, and then to the USA. Immigration patterns are very interesting to study.

The organized criminal element in Italy do not necessarily only come from the urban areas. Plus Italy is not that wide. The rural areas are a stones throw away from the urban.

In Brazil the massive immigration happened different of the USA. The land lords of coffee sent agents and they opened offices in Europe for recruit workers and paid their tickets for Brazil, so we can imagine tramp guys were not chosen.
Same way for Germans, Swiss and Austrian for colonize the countryside lands, they receive the lands but had the time of 5 years for develop production in their area or lose the land.
USA only opened their ports for the European enter… Because that USA came 40 million of them and Brazil 5 million.
We had problems with violence and crimes involving foreigner in that time but normal crimes not mafia. There are a lot of documents talking about this but in Portuguese.
U.S. Italian Immigration: Mostly from Southern Italy (including Sicily)
Brazil Italian Immigration: Mostly from Northern Italy. (Later, some from Southern Italy settled mainly in urban Sao Paulo).
Argentina Italian Immigration: Initially Mostly from Northern Italy, then from Southern Italy as well.
