The magnificent statue of Carlos IV (Charles IV), King of Spain between 1788 and 1808 (in that time all of Spanish America was under its rule, so by Spain it includes all those Spanish speaking countries south of the USA), was inaugurated in 1796. It's the second largest bronze statue in the world.
Today it was reinaugurated after a very nice restoration that lasted about a year.
Originally the statue was placed at the center of the Plaza de Armas (today its called Zocalo), the square in front of the magestic Metropolitan Cathedral. After Mexico's independence it was moved to its current location.
This statue is simply amazing for its detail and its size. Makes me want to make a trip to Mexico City just to see it and photograph it. I also like the fact that it was made in Mexico, so it truly is a magnificent Mexican and Latin American work of art.
