The US is not the only major purchaser of oil. There's China, India, the European Union, and Japan.
US purchases 75% of their hard cash oil exports. They send oil to China as repayment for loans. If the US placed an embargo on their oil Venezuala would collapse, quickly.
Sanctions won't help and it'll be an excuse the Maduro govt will use to say that all their faults are because of economic war by the US.
BS, he says that anyway. The only reason we haven't banned their oil is because the country would collapse and destabilize the region, create a migrant crisis, worse than the one they already have.
The Venezuelan mock referendum that happened a couple of days ago in Bogota had various voting booths dispersed around the city. The lines that stretch for dozens of blocks in each site in different points of the city illustrate the amount of Venezuelans who have made the move. The trend seems to be that the number will continue to rise exponentially. If sanctions are put in place, things will go downhill fast but what's the alternative? The only option I see is an invasion and regime change.
That's the problem with being the world's lone superpower. You end up as a punching bag for everyone around you. Like I said earlier, I'm still waiting for someone to blame the US for the extinction of the dinosaurs.
It's bound to happen.
Italy has a bigger economy than Russia. All it has is potentially destructive might, aside from that it's a big failure.
Italy is just richer, but Russia is clearly the more powerful country nowadays. For better or for worse, Russia is a very feared country. Nobody fears Italy
While they both are regional powers, neither qualify for superpower status at this point. Plus, I believe only China really fits into the equation.
