Is that Andean music Colombian Andean music? That looks fun, I'm with that sort of thing.
I'm pretty sure that particular song is Bolivian but there is music like that from Colombia. Colombia is a big music consumer country so you will hear stuff from all over Latin America, don't be surprised if you hear a guatemalan song being played in the middle of you dancing. Hundreds of people go there every thursday from about 6-10pm.
I know . Any info you need on Cali let me know. My family is from the coffee region so Paisa culture, different from Cali but due to proximity (only 3 hours), I know the city pretty well.
When there don't miss the 'Loma de la Cruz' every Thursday evenings. People get together for free Andean group dances. Other nice places are San Antonio, Cristo Rey, Cerro 3 Cruces for hiking, Granada for restaurants & parque del Perro for nightlife.
Keep your boyaca-style cynicism to yourself. Seriously, I can't be dealing with these annoying boyaco-santandereano attitudes. In the west we're just more joyful and friendly - deal.
Lol If they were a Christian sect there would usually be people holding their arms open up in the air. What about the lyrics made you think they are Christian?
Thanks for the recommendations.
If anyone has good food recommendations let us know. Are mercados good places to find food in Colombia?
Just go to any restaurant that serves almuerzo ejecutivo.
I haven't been following this thread in the past several days. There had been some discussion of Cali. It's ok. I personally am not a big fan and wouldn't live there because of crime and because it's hot. I own a house in Cali (in Tequendama), which I rent out, but I don't see myself living there. If I were to choose a place to live in Colombia, it'd probably be Manizales or perhaps Medellin (yeah, Medellin also has a lot of crime, but at least it's cooler), but in all honesty I'd prefer living in Madrid over anything else.
That's not to say you wouldn't like Cali or that you wouldn't find it a suitable place for you to live. Some of the positive things about it are that it's a large city with big-city entertainment options, there's a large university there, it's a muti-cultural city with a lot of differenent ethniticies/races living together, the nighclub/dancing scene is unsurpassed. Most people in Colombia would say Manizales is "boring" while Cali is "exciting", which is probably true.
The negatives about it are that you do have to be careful out in the streets. It's not a war zone or anything, but I personally prefer to live someplace where I don't have to worry about muggings and things like that.

Three hours from Cali puts your family in the Armenia/Sevilla area.
