Heya!
I have 4 weeks holiday from early september thru to october and have always wanted to visit Alaska but I am bamboozled by the choices of what to see and where to go. I'd really like to see as much as I can, so if anyone can suggest the best places to base myself i'd really appreciate it. I'll be travelling alone. At the moment i'm thinking of the obvious places like Anchorage, Juneau and Sitka but I'm only going by the most obvious choices. Car or Train? B & B or Hotel? Cruise or ferries?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you.

Are you going to spend the whole 4 weeks here?
All the communities in Southeast (Juneau, Sitka, Wrangel, Ketchikan, etc) are only accessible by jet or ferry, except for Haines & Skagway. So, if you are looking to hit these, you'll have to factor in air fare.
Alaskan cruises only go up until the 2nd week of September. Those leave out of Seattle or Vancouver BC.
If fact, a lot of touristy type stuff wraps up mid-September. But, there is still plenty to go and do.

You may get some good deals as it will be shoulder season in Alaska. If you are going to Denali, and I would suggest you do, go early in your trip. The park road will be closed by the end of the month.

thank you! I think from the replies I should leave it until next year and come a little earlier in the season.
