I drove down to Oklahoma in March from Anchorage. They keep the roads on the Canadian side plowed pretty good. Other then being cold I had no problems.

You can always drive to Seattle, ship your car and fly up. We did this when we moved up in November. bad thing about driving the Alcan that time of year is that a lot of services are closed up for the year, meaning gas and food is much further spread out, along with tow trucks, etc.

I have driven several times in summer and winter, summer you have alot of tourist so the driving is very slow and alot of construction. In winter the snow makes the roads alot smoother and less traffic. As long as you take your time I don't see any problems. Being from NewYork your no stranger to snow, sure you will be fine. goodluck..:-)

There are many places that are open year round, the farthest without any service is roughly a hundred miles.

Lodges open year round:

Toad River

Buckinghorse

Liard River Lodge

Wonowon

Talbot Arms Hotel in Destruction Bay

Northern Rockies Lodge at Munch Lake

October is a great month to drive here, IMO. But if you can't make it by then, personally I would either fly or wait until April or May.
