I'm considering relocating to the Anchorage area (If I can find a job.) and I'm wondering if it might be to late to move this year considering winter arrives early in Alaska. (Compared to the New York area.) I hear you can expect snow in mid October.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

It is possible to drive after there's snow on the ground. I think. I'm new here, but I'm pretty sure that's true.

Also, consider that many people moving here are in the military, and they have to move whenever they're told to, including the middle of winter. The job part is probably more important, unless you have a good amount of money saved up.

Moving farther north - I would suggest waiting until spring if you can and then easing into winter.

Getting a job is the first step but employers are relucatant to hire out of state. Risky for them plus a face to face interview is very costly.
Thanks for the feedback.

if you have an issue with the snow, why are you moving here?

No issue with snow. Just an issue with driving 4600 miles through areas that have severe winter conditions. Curious what kind of feedback I'll get from people who live there.

It depends on how comfortable you are in winter driving, your vehicle and it's capabilities and the weather conditions you find as you travel. It's a fluid situation - Winter.

I moved here last October. It was a mild winter here. Will it be the same next year? Who knows??? It may depend a lot on what you plan on moving too.
