A very interesting Craigslist post for those moving this summer from the east coast to south-central or really anywhere in AK served by the road system. I have nothing to do with nor any interest in the CL post other than to get it into hands that can use it.

Seen today in Craigslist:

Need a trailer to move form lower 48? (http://anchorage.craigslist.org/rvs/2422169204.html - broken link)

If you work in anchorage commuting from the valley is not very desirable. People do it but I know several that have done it and regreted it. The commute is so aweful that it does not make the cheaper realestate, quiteness or other positive aspect of the valley worth it. IF you have a really flexable work schedule and dont mind getting up at 4:30 in the morning you can get around the rush 3 hours but I dont like getting up that early so we are looking at birchwood or eagle river but even thoes places are sketchy becuase thats where the traffic gets the worse anyways at thoes S turns so you may shorten distance but not nessicarily much time.

i was thinking of moving to the mat-su valley if a job transfer happens. palmer, wasilla, and maybe even houston. i will only be commuting to anchorage for work every two weks, if you were me, having the living experience, where would you reside that would be within about an hour of anchorage airport? one of my wife's stipulations about moving to alaska is being not too far away from an airport. would fairbanks and the surrounding communities be a better option? i hear its much colder and drier there, which is fine by me.
