Well it seems that my trusty old Legacy is about to give up the ghost, transmission lost reverse today. I've been calling around and looking around without much luck on finding a replacement transmission. Any of you fine folks have a line on a used one? Anything early 90's should be compatible, non turbo automatic with AWD.

Alternatively another 90's AWD model would do me just fine. Hopefully someone knows where one might be. =)

Subarus actually have transmissions? From what I have seen out on the highways, they only have one gear - slow.

You might check with A & A The Shop. They specialize in Subarus. You might also check and see if Affordable Trasmission on E 74th in Anchorage is still in business.

Well thanks for the tip, A&A didn't even want to talk parts with me, and Affordable could get one from Japan but it would be more than I paid for the car, and it's not a real gem of a rig worth sinking a whole lot of dough into. I know that used transmissions can be found for $4-500. A friend of mine JUST did one last week, wish I could have laid paws on that one first. :P (Mine was behaving juuuust fine at the time.) Looks like I'm still on the hunt.

I a bunch of those transmission online... you may want to search yourself. All in your price range, some including shipping, but not sure how that would work to AK.

I will DM you the site I used to find it.

Your best idea might be finding a donor rig. The shops aren't big on rebuilding foreign transmissions.

I would wholeheartedly welcome meeting a Subaru on the road that wasn't driven like it was operated by some 90 year old Granny!
