I don't think I'd call it lucky, all that snow is going to melt and when it does, it will be a big mess. Here in Bethel we've gotten around 82" of snow this winter, a near record for us. There is snow everywhere, when it starts warming up and melting, it will be a big mess here.

Well, I'm definitely jealous. If you're tired of all that snow, please, send it over here to this snowless maritime rock. Thank you.

And this was one the warmest winters ever recorded in the lower 48. Weird.

However, snow in Anchorage in April is not really that unusual. Nor is it in October. When I moved to Anchorage in September of 1996, I was greeted with one of the snowiest October's in city history, something like 28 inches that month alone.

You do, Warpt. I am SO sick of winter! I never want to see snow again. If I could mail all the snow to the UK, I would gladly do so!

I would have just as soon had another month so I could get our spiral stairs out to the cabin. As it stands I'm going to have to wait until the ice is opened up enough to get the boat out there. At least it's good spring skiing right now.

Meh, we got 300 inches more than they did and it's not a mess in town. Breakup's been going steady for nearly two weeks, we've still got 68 inches on the ground, and there aren't any major puddles; just some water on the sidewalks for the most part. The first few days are rough, while the gutters are thawing out, but after that it shouldn't be a big issue as long as your streets were designed by sane people. Just stay off your lawn while it's soggy.

As for winter, I wish we could have another month of it and still somehow have a normal summer. But that isn't happening. At least we'll still have snow in the mountains for a while yet. I'm getting excited about summer now, but I want more time to play in the snow.
