Johnson's Tire quoted me $119-139 for a simple tire swap. This seems like a lot of money for 45 minutes worth of work. (I'm a former car mechanic).

Anyone know who in town performs this simple service for a price that's not outrageous?

Alaska Sales and Service charges $75. Plus they will store your tires for free if you have other service done there, like oil changes and such.

Excellent, guys! This is already a great start! $75 or $55 bucks beats Jonson's any day!

Get your winter tires their own set of wheels. Then you can change them out yourself for free in your driveway.

You can try the Shell Station at the corner of Boniface and Debarr. Not sure what they charge but they are super nice and always reasonable

Default From Todays Craigslist!

Bad tire service (Dowling Rd.)
Had tires changed over from winter to summer look later and all lug nuts are ruined. Must have used the wrong size socket too big and didnt know better. Called them and they said the lug nuts must have been bad already. NOT, they will not make this right Bad service.
Alaska tire on Dowling Road please beware.

Bad tire service
We had problems with a place on Dowling/Potter as well. While we watched they tried to see how fast they could change the tires pretending to be a NASCAR pit crew. Lug nuts weren't seated properly.

We now use TDS near the Peanut Farm on International. Tires are on rims and it's 20 bucks.

I kind of grudgingly mention them because they seem like one of those best kept secrets, but..if you're going through the downtown area, Cline's Tesoro has always done a solid job with tire changes on our cars. I believe the total per car was about $70 or $75, if memory serves. It can get a little busy in there late afternoons, though.

The cheapest way is to not own snow tires. I've lived in many snowy and hilly areas and never had them, the snowiest being upstate NY where we got 150-200 inches each winter.

Of course, if you happen to live in Yee-haw!, Valdez, then you should probably buy some.
