Hi all,

I'm looking for a place within 30 minutes of downtown Anchorage to park and live in a travel trailer for the next 6 months or so. A building lot would be perfect. Availability of utilities would be nice, but isn't a must. Something off of Hiland in Eagle River would be ideal. Does anyone have an idea on how/where to search for something like this?

Thanks

The only RV Park that I know is open all year is the Golden Nugget RV Park in Anchorage.

Golden Nugget RV Park - Anchorage Campgrounds | Good Sam Club

The Ship Creek RV Park does not open until May 1, and shuts down September 30. There are no RV parks in Eagle River to my knowledge. The Eagle River Camp Grounds has RV accommodations, but only allow a maximum of 4 nights per visit. The Eklutna Lake Camp Grounds allows for up to 15 nights, but does not have RV accommodations.

I hope you have an arctic grade Rv/Travel Trailer. There are not too many I have found that are rated for below zero temps.

Thanks for the responses.

A bit of clarification, I'm not looking for an RV park. I'd like to lease a plot of land (.5 acre +) for 6 months or so. I might just start contacting some of the people with house building lots for sale to see if they'd like to make some income while waiting for a buyer.

If anyone is interested, the Golden Nugget is right in the middle of town and charges $600/mo + utilities. The reviews look good, It'd be a good option for someone who wants to live in town.

Regarding the cold, it does surprisingly well. A week outside of FB in -40 wasn't too bad. I wouldn't do -40 long term, but it's more or less okay long term at -20.

Due to zoning regulations within the Municipality of Anchorage you're gonna have a hard time finding what you're looking for. Your best bet is the Golden Nugget. It's clean and you don't have to put up with the homeless people coming around.

Not least of which are liability issues. I certainly would not lease out any of my land for such purposes.

When the MOA started running the RV'ers out of the WalMart and Fred Meyers parking lots you could see the writing on the walls. When I lived in Ketchikan and came to visit Anchorage in the summer I'd rent a van and just sleep in it in the WalMart parking lot. Lots of rvs doing it. Not anymore. No overnight camping allowed. I think it was all political to force people to use the commercial campgrounds.

Thanks for all the input. I'm going to speak with a realtor this weekend to see what the options are for leasing. I'll update the thread if I manage to find out anything (liability issues, regulations, etc).

You'd probably have better luck with this by looking in the Wasilla area.
