I've been to Anchorage and loved it. In fact, I picked up a vehicle to drive all of Alaska's unpaved roads the morning after I arrived.

For the night I had no vehicle, I stayed in a youth hostel and LOVED anchorage. In summer it becomes the city the sun is shining down on you at 10:30pm, something you will never ever experience down south. Also for Anchorage it never gets as cold as interior Alaska because of the pacific

Crime? Isn't there a lot of corruption in Alaska? They say there's a lot of political corruption in the state, but there also seems to be a fair amount of fraud around the non-profit sector, too. Maybe there's too much easy money in the state?

There are more people here in Alaska that are not from here, then there are people from here. Although the numbers for Alaskan born residents is rising according to Alaska Daily News. (newspaper).

Coming from an area very similar to what you are describing, it is one of the reasons we moved.
