Maybe make an insurance claim and buy new. Do you really need more than one or two?

What do you need your “firearms” for?
Are there rabid dogs in your neighborhood?

Ever heard of hunting? A very common subsistence reality in AK. People often have both shotguns as well as rifles. Handguns are another topic.

You're posting in the Alaska forum. Do you not know anything about Alaska?

Why is the word firearms in quotation marks? Do you think we're using it in code for something sinister?

I am not the OP but I'll answer you. There are a lot of things 'in the neighborhood' that one might need firearms for.

I'm going to take a stab in the dark that our neighborhoods don't have the same animals passing through that yours do. Even in town, moose walk through the streets every day. Outside of town, all bets are off.

My cousin, his wife and their toddler were once on a picnic down at the river below their cabin and he'd walked down river a little ways. She and the baby were sitting in a clearing above the riverbank and were charged by an angry moose. Fortunately he'd left the rifle with her and she shot it.

It feels like you're assuming that because we own firearms that we're bloodthirsty wackos. If that is the case maybe you need to check your preconceived notions.

So, there are two issues here.

1) His guns were seized during a police raid on his tenants. Fair enough, at the time you don't know who was doing what. However, if the OP is being truthful and he was not charged, or found to be involved in whatever his tenants were doing, then his guns should be returned. They weren't stolen, the police confiscated them and to file an insurance claim is probably against the law too.

2) Both snackdog and Zenstyle's comments lack understanding. Just because you have no interest in owning a gun doesn't mean nobody can have a gun unless there are "rabid dogs in your neighborhood." I've got shotguns for water fowl and upland bird hunting. A different shotgun for bear protection. Several rifles for hunting bigger stuff. Various .22s for target shooting and handguns for personal protection because there are many places in Alaska where police are hours to days away and you are on your own.

Excellent point, and one that I think a lot of people in the states don't understand.

It's none of your business what he wants them for.

Did you really need to resurrect a post several months old from a one hit wonder?

The guy apparently never has visited City Data again. He should have posted in the hobbies and recreation area, the forum that CD gun enthusiasts visit.
