ok, so we decided to fly to anchorage, then travel to valdez. does anyone know where there would be a good place to buy a car in anchorage? I'm hoping for the 3maybe4 grand range. but if i have to will pay more. i probly need an s.u.v due to the family of 4 sometimes 5 with 2 dogs. am i crazy to hope for something decent under or near 4 grand?

I don't know about Anchorage, but in Juneau you'd be hard pressed to find a car in that price range from a dealer. That range is too low for them to make any money on the sale and if a car existed in that range, it's probably junk. Dealer prices are mainly in the $5,000-20,000 range with the majority on the upper end of the range (newer 1-3 year old cars). Your best bet would be a private party purchase. I believe there is also a park and sell lot where private owners can sell their cars.

For that price range you'd have to look at private sellers, and for an SUV it would be in the mid 90s are far as year. The Daily News or craigslist is the place to look for those. The park and sell actually has pretty good deals as well and I have only heard good things about that one.
