Hello. Are apartment rent prices cheaper in January than in December because of people trying to rush in before the end of year to get oil dividend check?

I'm just wondering. I am considering moving to Anchorage late this year or early next year. Thanks in advance.

I'm confused - but from what I've read here one is not eligible for the "check" until residing in AK for a full calendar year. Even then, it's not dispursed until Oct. of the following year.
We are moving next month and won't be eligible until 2010 then.
Make sure you're bringing a windfall of $ with you beforehand for unexpected expenses.
We have found, though, that the vacation rentals in Anchorage are rented monthly rather than weekly off season and they are fully stocked. We're using one of those for 30 days until we find a rental we like and our stuff arrives then.

The monthly rental rates drop after mid-September, or the 1st of October, depending on the company. I've had decent (not necessarily good, but decent) monthlies for around $500-700 a month. Usually a 1-BR with a kitchenette - stocked with the very basics of cookware.
