FINALLY! We are in Juneau. Just got off the ferry from Bellingham this morning. Tomorrow we catch the 2nd one for the final leg of our journey to Whittier!
The ferry ride was great. Everyone enjoyed the trip, even the rough patch here & there.
We got to see snow today for the 1st time since leaving Spokane on the 6th of Jan...it was a welcome sight after all the yucky rain they had the west side of WA.
I am still pinching myself...we're ACTUALLY on our way!
We're all psyched!
Take care y'all....& God bless!

And now the fun begins. Strange to say that with the economy seeming to tank outside, my shop is again thinking of hiring 2-3 more people. The question in managements mind is do we want to hire if we can only use them for 3-4 months right now. But there are other projects that may come to fruition in the next 2-3 months. BIG meetings at the office over this today. Driving me nuts. Meeting at 10, and another at 2. I hate meetings. Where is hubby going to work at and what does he do?

For the next 1.5 years he's still active Air Force. After that, if we like AK, when he retires, he can do Logistic Plans, Conventional Avionics (worked on the radios on the planes), & Computers (build & maintain). Not sure where we'll retire, either AK or MT. Time & job (s) will tell!

Ah. Ex-navy electronics tech (retired) here. But logistics might be a place to be looking job-wise after he retires. The other side of the company (Fairweather) has a marine side, does all of the medical clinics and personnel on the North Slope and also does remote airfields.

Even though we're not there yet welcome welcome.. Are you driving with all 8 children? I have 5 but I don't think I'll drive from wisconsin with them. How was the ferry we thought about taking that route but then it was waaaaaaaaaaay out of our way. where is your final desination. We hope to end up outside of anchorage.

We made it here to Elmendorf AFB. We're sitting in TLF (temporary living facility = military hotel) until we get our house on base. My poor puppy is in doggy jail til we do! I know it's a nice place (vet run) but that poor boy has been thru the gamut this trip!
We only brought 3 of the kids with us...& thankfully none of us got sick on the ferry, even though on the 2nd trip we had 15 foot waves at some places. The weird thing is that we're all still feeling like we're on the blasted thing! It's the STRANGEST thing I've ever experienced...
Thus far, we're all in awe of the absolutely stunning mountains! Can't wait to explore more!!!
BTW...we've received quite the bizare welcome! Being told that Mt Redoubt (sp?) might start spewing ash! How many of you have experienced this???
